The speaker for February's BCTU meeting is Kristen Travers from the Stroud Water Research Center. The Stroud Water Research Center, located in Chester County is a nationally and internationally known leader in scientific research of rivers and streams. The title of her presentaion is "Streamside Forests: The Natural Solution to Healthy Streams". Kristen will also discuss the research that Stroud scientists are currently doing in Bucks County. This research dates back to the late 1960's when water quality data from 11 streams in Bucks County was gathered. Stroud is now revisiting 5 of those streams (the Neshaminy, Tinicum, Tohickon, Pidcock and Paunacussing Creeks) and replicating parts of the original study to determine how water quality conditions have changed in the last 40 years. Kristen will also talk about Stroud's "Leaf Pack Network" an educational program that gives school kids hands on experience with stream macroinvertebrates (it would be a natural fit with those schools already participating in Trout in the Classroom). Please take moment to go to their website www.stroudcenter.org there is more information about the Leaf Pack Network and for a more detailed look at what Stroud does, click on the "About Us" tab at the top of the page and then the "History" tab on the left of the page.
