We have set a date to complete the work on Cooks Creek. The date will be Sunday November11th with a rain date of Sunday November 18th. We need at least 15 - 20 people to complete the work. We have to plant trees and cedars. Please mark down the date and we will have sign up sheets and more information later.
Hi Everyone,
On Sunday, November 11th we will return to the project we started
this past August on Cooks Creek to finish it. We will be planting
native trees and shrubs, willows and dogwoods at the base of the
bank and various native grasses and wildflowers. The work we
did in August looks great and these plantings will create a very
stable bank over time. We can use all the help we can, most of
the work should not be all that physically difficult.
Things to bring: Shovels, iron rakes, hoes, hammers,
especially smaller type sledge hammers for driving pilot holes
for willow live stakes, pry bars or crow bars also for making pilot
holes for willow live stakes. (I have one shovel that someone
left on the site in August, I'll bring it with me if the owner wants
to claim it). Bring lunch and plenty to drink, its hard to say
how long the work will take, depends on how many people we have,
it should at least be 4-5 hours but may be all day. We will be
starting around 8:00 AM.
IF YOU COULD SEND A BRIEF REPLY TO THIS EMAIL THAT YOU WILL BE THERE WE WOULD APPRECIATE IT SO WE HAVE A GENERAL IDEA OF THE NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS.
If you have any questions please email me at jmihok@netzero.net
, or call me 215-249-3033. My cell phone number for the day of
the project is 215-589-9531. Raindate for this project is Sunday,
Nov. 18th, if we need to postpone it will be posted on the website,
www.buckstu.org .
DIRECTIONS:
>From Doylestown:
Take Route 611 North to the intersection of Rts 611 and 212
Turn Left on Rt 212 West Go about 1.5 miles and turn Right on
Durham Rd, there is a blue hisorical marker sign at this
intersection for the Durham Furnace Go through the village of
Durham, you will pass the post office on your right and then cross
over Cooks Creek, go a few hundred yards more and turn Left on
Dogwood Lane (this is a blind intersection use the mirror across the
road to watch for oncoming traffic)
You will pass a baseball field on the right, and then the farmhouse
and barn also on the right and a pond on the left, continue on
Dogwood Lane for several hundred yards, there is a large cornfield
(already harvested) on your left, when Dogwood Lane starts to turn
to the right the project site will be in the far bottom corner of
the field. Parking will depend on the weather, if it is dry we
can drive down to the project site, if it is too wet we will park at
the top of the field.
Thanks and I hope to see you on the 11th.
